Privacy policy.

Effective April 1, 2026  ·  FiltRead

The short version. FiltRead is anonymous by design — we never ask for your name or email. We send article text to our AI backend only to generate a relevance score and summary. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card details.

What we collect

  • A randomly generated wallet token, stored locally in your browser
  • Visible (pre-paywall) article text from partner publisher pages, sent temporarily to our scoring API
  • Payment transaction records via Stripe — amount, timestamp, and wallet token only
  • Aggregate, non-identifiable usage data such as unlock counts and score distributions

What we do not collect

  • Your name, email address, or any account credentials
  • Browsing history outside of verified FiltRead partner publisher domains
  • Payment card numbers or banking details — handled entirely by Stripe
  • Persistent device identifiers or cross-site tracking data

How article text is used

When you visit a paywalled article on a partner publisher site, FiltRead sends the publicly visible portion of the article text to our scoring API. This text is used solely to generate a Signal Score (1–10) and a brief AI summary to help you decide whether to unlock the article.

Article text is not stored beyond the duration of a single scoring request. It is never used for advertising, profiling, or sold to third parties.

Payments and Stripe

FiltRead uses Stripe to process wallet top-ups. When you add funds, your payment information is submitted directly to Stripe and is never transmitted to or stored on FiltRead servers. FiltRead records only the resulting wallet credit amount and a Stripe transaction reference ID.

Stripe's privacy practices are governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Publisher revenue sharing

When you unlock an article, 70% of the unlock amount is passed to the publisher. FiltRead shares only aggregate revenue data with publishers. No individual wallet tokens, unlock histories, or behavioral data are disclosed to publishers.

Data retention and deletion

Your wallet token is stored in your browser's local storage and can be cleared at any time by uninstalling the FiltRead extension or clearing your browser data. No account deletion request is required because we hold no personal account data.

Transaction records are retained for up to 2 years for financial and accounting purposes, referenced only by anonymous wallet token.

Chrome extension permissions

The FiltRead extension requests only the permissions necessary to function:

  • storage Persists your anonymous wallet token locally in your browser
  • scripting Injects the FiltRead overlay on verified partner publisher pages only
  • host_permissions Scoped to specific partner publisher domains and FiltRead API endpoints; the extension does not activate on any other site

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of FiltRead after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
